It's the first one we've run i years and the last one run was a closed seminar for World Kobudo Federation students only sowe're not sure who'll be there. We'll to have members of the five different Maynooth martial arts clubs there, Drogheda JuJItsu will be sending down most of their students, and the DCU martial arts club also said that they'd be sending some people along too.
The seminar's been advertised in Irish Fighter magazine and letters have been sent to all of the martial arts clubs we could find addresses for in Ireland (God Bless Yellow Pages!) so the attendance should be impressive.
I'll lok forward to seeing you there, Mark.

I have been speaking with your Club Captain Buffy offline and she reckons there won't be any rolling time for the jitz part. Surely if there will be loads of us together that don't normally meet we should take advantage of the opportunity to learn from each other's games?....just a thought...

I'm not the captain, I'm the president, my role is purely beurocratic.

We don't know what all the instructors have planned, and I don't know if even they have it all solidified yet, so I can't really give you a minute by minute account of the day before it happens...

True, but you could just ask the instructors if there will be any rolling?

Well I, for one, found yesterday illuminating.

Suru-Sensei Hodgins's soft technique set was a real blast from the past. That cross-shoulder armlock is someything I haven't seen since my yellow-belt grading, where he mentioned it in passing as one of the real "old-school" techniques. His evil streak was also very well-represented there, every technique being given an amendment five minutes later that was prefaced with the phrase "...and this is how I'd do it." and then shown gaian but this time with a handful of strikes into vitals and pressure points...ouch! I think little Kev bore the brunt of Suru-Sensei's nastiness, though, with his general "Fuck you" attitude earning him more than one dead leg and slap in the face. Hee hee.

Sensei McGeoghan was something totally out of this world, simultaneously refuting and completely justifying his reputation. It was the first time we'd seen him in action and we had almost dismissed him as some sort of yeti; we'd heard the horror stories and seen his footprints in other martial artists but never actually seen him do much more than half-smile at us as we filed past him into Club-M. What can I say really apart from Oh My God! The technique set he taught is what's commonly referred to as "yellow-belt at a black-belt level". Very impressive and extremely practical. I did, however, find his well-precticed nonchalance while doing the techniques slightly chilling. Nevertheless, he seemed genuinely delighted to be there and it still puts a smile on my face when I think of him clapping his hands together and rubbing them with an "okay warriors, make it happen!"

This may well be some sort of misplaced loyalty but Sensei Downes impressed me most of all. Despite being "only" a first dan, he looked just as confident when demonstrating and the techniques he showed were just as unique to him as the other techniques were to the other senseis. He later confessed to being slightly nervous at teaching in front of two martial artists who were so much more senior to him but none of us noticed him being anything but completely on the level.

All told, a definite re-do if at all possible.

ah yes an impressive day.

everyone in good humour, it went off pretty well. i wasn't crippled like last time. three strong showings in the senseis. it hits home the work to be done for a black to be in the offing!

what we saw was deceptively strong. kinda feel proud to be part of it too.

well organised and pulled off too, thanks to buffy and the rest of the committee.

it strikes me that greater crosstraining between the two sister clubs would be an advantage too!

good show for everyone in the club!!

While the day was long and truely terrifying, it was immense fun.
All of the techniques were really enjoyable tp practice, as well as teaching us an awful lot in so little.

First off, well done to buffy for her truely fantastic organiation of the entire thing.
As colin farrell would say "cheers love that was A1".

The only word i could think to describe all three Sensei's were unbelievable.
Sensei Hodgins techniques, were at the same time soft and horrifically nasty when you thought about.

Sensei Downes' techniques were the good old dirty techniques,
and I can't think of anyother word but Steve-itsu.

Sensei McGeoghan was truely remarkable. Mind blowingly impressive and so nice, I couldn't get over it. He kept his set nice and simple but at the same time they were truely viceral.

The meal afterwards was georgous, if not a bit too spicy, and the rest of the evening wound down slowly.
All in all, one of the best days I've had in a very very long time.

Well back to the dissertation.
