| Have been reading up on this art a slight bit along with some traditional Japanese textbooks about bujutsu and such - I was wondering if anyone knew of a Kendo club in or around Dublin or in any of the colleges...

I have wanted to take up Kendo for a while. But I really want to take up Iaido.
I have done a lot of research into this subject and the only place to practice(unless you want to go to cork or galway) is the Dublin Kendo Kobukai ( and they are also starting an Iaido class(the only one in ireland that i have heard of))
http://www.dublinkendo.com/
They practice on tuesday nights and on sunday.
I am going to go down and join up after my exams are finished.

| looks pretty good. Do ya know how much it would cost to get started at this? Also how accesible is it for a beginner? Also I'm not as fit as i used to be. My training has been cut down a bit over the last year... would fitness be a real advantage for this?

For Kendo fitness is a bonus
I'm not fit at all but i hope to change that over the summer.
You only need a shinai to get started. That will cost you less than €30.
After a few months i'd say you will need to get a bogu set.
That will set you back at least €500

| well you can get the Hakama and Keikogi for about 30 EU - dont know about the armour though. A good place to try would be J.P. Mullens on Mary Street - they have decent enough prices

I was about to say that I know of class in DCU, but that's one and the same as http://www.dublinkendo.com/ .
I've known Mr Noel Whelan for a number of years, and he is an open and honest artist and one I highly respect. Plus my wife trained with them, and you have to respect a woman that can use a sword
JP Mullens is good for starter kenpo equipment, but the guys at the DCU club told me that they send off from England for much better stuff, so tlak to them about gear.

Where can you get a hakama for €30. I'm looking into getting one (not for training or anything, so it doesn't even have to be able to withstand massive tension or anything). Is JP Mullens the place with the 30 quid hakamas?

A hakama in JP Mullens will set you back 44.95 (I researched <grin>), a gi will be about the same. I think they get a little more expensive with bigger sizes, but I'm not sure.
Some of the clubs in college will subsidise things like gis, but I don't think there's a kendo club running in maynooth at the moment.
If there's a market for it though, and you could convince a sensei to come and teach it here, you might be able to set up a club.
