Could anyone tell me what order belts go up in?
Also when you start out do you have to do a test to get a white belt or do you just get it?

I think it depends on the martial art cos Shotkan starts with white then orange and I don't know the order of the rest.
Ju jitsu is White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black I think. They'll correct me if I'm wrong anyway.

Depends on what martial arts you do here.

In Shotokan Karate the order is

White
Orange
Red
Yellow
Green
Purple
Purple
Brown
Brown

Black

To start out, you just buy your karate suit and the white belt comes with it. You're probably best to join the class when they start up again after Christmas. Smile

k, cool.
Is the hall still mental on Monday or has Shotokan and Fencing membership slackened off to a degree that we can resume our training there too?

HEY! Have your mats gone on a diet so we can divide the hall more evenly?! Cool

Last Monday (I didn't go this week) it was just fencing and Shotokan. Last Wednesday it was the same, but there was a purple belt guy who put two mats in the corner of fencing and practiced there for a while. Fencing seems to have calmed down immensely. The numbers for Shotkan vary greatly though, but the sensei will argue you to death over getting half a hall. I'm afraid of him, but that hall is well over booked and nobody can easily change. Sad

Bugrit, forgot I 'm not a mod anymore.
Anyway, the way I see it, it's between club presidents so why don't the thre epresidents sort it out?
The hall is actually more than big enough for the three clubs now that post-fairs day membership has slackened off.

Aww! Yar good

It's more our trainer I have to talk to. The clubs would be fine, but our guy likes to be in control, and I know everyone has to make sacrafices, but if our numbers are at a certain height, we do end up walloping each other unintentionally. Monday's fencing seem to be okay, with their parry and thrust (Wink), and you lot are great, the amount of space ye can fit yer mats into, but I know we DO take up a lot of room. If it's that bad again next semester, something will have to change.

Well, as it is, we've stepped back from training all of the first semester to accomodate the other two clubs so see if your sensei takes that as the goodwill gesture it was intended to be. We had absolutely no problems with Fencing last year so I fail to see why there has to be any issues this year. Having said that, we gave up our only proper training slot to two clubs for half a college year so I'm hoping to see an improvement in the situation next term.

I hadn't realised this at all, so let me thank you for that now.

Were ye training at all this semester?

I don't know why we were put in the small gym this year though. Up until then we had been fine in half of the big gym on Mondays, with Judo. Whatever happened in the timetabling.

ya, one carload was going up to Drogheda semi-regularly but that's no way to run a club. I don't even have the car space to fit all my seniors! I'm unsure as to what happened either, Paul Davis told me that Shotokan and Fencing both went up and levelled serious complaints about us so he was going to take our Monday slot altogether if there was one more complaint made so we decided to step out til the attendance for both clubs slackened off. Now, we've lost half an hour on Thursday and all three hours of Monday which leaves us with one hour on Tuesday (i.e. enough time to warm up) and an hour and a half on Thursday. All this and Paul gave me the impression that we were the only club actually willing to meet the others halfway. Please tell me we have the wrong end of the stick here.

First off, I'm way too distracted (and sleepy!) to give you the attention you deserve right now.

Secondly, as far as I know the complaint from Shotokan was just that there wasn't enough gym space for all of us (and we didn't know there were going to be three clubs in there at once beforehand either), and I think it was brought up that ye had longer sessions than the rest of us, and (again, as far as I know) that maybe for that reason it would be better to move one club (ie - ye) instead of juggling three.

And thirdly, you went more than halfway, and it really isn't fair on ye, I know, but we had to get times that suited the regulars and the trainer and the gym space, and the way we've had it for as long as anyone can remember seems to be the best course of action. So I still don't see why we were moved out of the main gym in the first place.

Next semester they better do a proper job of time-tabling, or there'll be some kind of war.

Cheers for the nod.
Any way we could both chat to Davis and get things back to normal?

You're welcome. And thank you again, I DO appreciate your move.

I think all of us talking to Paul would be the best plan. Nobody seems to have a reason for all the switching around that went on this year, so if we can switch it all back, it should make more people happy. Smile
